Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Lower Elementary Teacher, the STEM Assistant Teacher supports a classroom for lower-elementary students (6 – 9 years), helping children fulfill their developmental potential in a prepared environment while giving specialized lessons in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
In collaboration with the Elementary Teacher, develop STEM lesson plans and deliver presentations that supplement and reinforce classroom learning
Uses the school’s student information system effectively to communicate key information to parents
Performs necessary prep work to ensure that classroom supplies are continually replenished and daily activities such as snack are properly set up, etc.
Provides supervision and support for recess, lunch, before- and/or after-care, special events, etc., ensuring that minimum ratios are maintained at all times
In the absence of the Lower Elementary Teacher, capably leads the classroom and ensures continuity
Participates in periodic training and professional development opportunities
Engages in administrative activities that support the school’s academic programs (i.e., planning for and participating in special events; participating in one-on-one meetings and/or staff meetings, etc.)
Participates in and may lead special projects as required
Ensures a safe, joyful, and positive atmosphere for children, maintaining uncompromised regulatory compliance and upholding strict standards of classroom and common-area cleanliness at all times
Monitors the environment and works with individual children as required to ensure that the classroom is flowing smoothly; issues between or among children are resolved swiftly; and children are re-directed to positive activities when necessary

Physical Demands: This is a largely active role which requires individuals to stand, walk or run for long periods of time; speak clearly so listeners can understand and understand the speech of another person; use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired; lifting up to 20 pounds; and bending, stretching, twisting, and reaching out.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time non-exempt position.
Travel: No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors’ or master’s degree in a STEM-related field
At least 1 year experience in elementary education working in high-quality schools
Valid pediatric CPR and first aid certification
Interesting hobbies, skills, and life experiences
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Must provide proof of negative TB test results upon hire (taken within the previous 12 months)
Must provide proof of required immunizations
Must pass criminal background check
Work Authorization/Security Clearance: Must be US citizen or green card holder.
